Count on Leo Records to put Russian jazzmen out there. Saxophonist Alexey Kruglov is in his early thirties. Here he is with drummer Oleg Udanov (of jazz Group Archangelsk), plus a pianist, a bassist and a singer making appearances here and there. Seal of Time is a very strong compositional cycle, rich in emotions and twists. “Poet” immediately made me think of Ivo Perelman: same fire, same urgency. A good record but most of all a very promising record. Keep an eye on this Kruglov: not only does he has a sure-footed and poignant tone, but he seems to have good ideas too.
